Wendover
Hills,
This Wednesday, February 22, is Ash Wednesday. If you are not familiar
with Ash Wednesday, let me give you are brief overview:
Each year, Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of Lent and is always 46 days before Easter Sunday. Lent is a 40-day season (not counting Sundays) marked by repentance, fasting, reflection, and ultimately celebration. The 40-day period represents Christ’s time of temptation in the wilderness, where he fasted and where Satan tempted him. Lent asks believers to set aside a time each year for similar fasting, marking an intentional season of focus on Christ’s life, ministry, sacrifice, and resurrection.
Lent invites us to fast from anything that is a barrier to a closeness with God. This Wednesday, I invite you to come to the church to receive prayer and the “smearing of ash” on your forehead, which is the representation of God’s purifying fire.
I will be at the church from 7-9 AM for prayer and ashes, and then back from 5-7 PM before Midweek begins at 7.
As God is moving in our midst calling us to consecrate ourselves to Him, this can be a powerful liturgy for you to participate in. This is open for the entire family and is a great way to teach your kids what it means to surrender ourselves to Him.
Blessings to you. I hope to see many of you this Wednesday.
